Chief Charles Wiley is responsible for the direction of the Galveston Police Department as a whole, as well as the supervision of the individuals and units assigned to his office.

The office of the Chief of Police determines departmental policies and ensures the complete discharge of all duties imposed by Texas State Law or City Ordinance. The Office is responsible for the control, management and direction of all officers and employees, as well as the Department’s administration and operation.

Born in Galveston, Charles Wiley attended both Ball High School and Galveston College before earning a Bachelor of Science in the Administration of Criminal Justice from the University of Houston at Clear Lake City and later, a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.


Prior to his appointment as Chief of Police for the City of Galveston, he served as Chief of Police for the Houston ISD Police Department. Wiley served as Chief of Police for the City of Denton, Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety for the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Chief of Police for the City of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and is a former Under-sheriff for the Galveston County Sheriffs Office.




Wiley began his career, as a police officer for the City of Galveston Police Department, is a veteran of the U.S Army with service in Viet Nam.  He and his wife, Mary, have two grown children and five grandchildren.
