LT. Byron Frankland attended Alvin Community College Police Academy in February 1993 where he was class president. He then went to work for the Newton County Sheriff’s Department in September of 1993.
LT. Frankland started the Galveston Police Department on January 4th 1994.
In October 1995 he was selected to join the Community Policing unit. He worked in this unit until it was changed over to a bike patrol unit in September 1997. Where he attended I.M.P.E.B.A. bike patrol instructor’s school where he obtained a bike instructors certificate. He also joined the SWAT Team in 1996 and became an operator.
In 1998 he was awarded a Meritorious Service award for our service in the Community Policing Unit.
He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2003.
Frankland is a licensed T.E.C.L.O.S.E. instructor, Firearms instructor. Certified Glock armor, Colt M-16 armor, and Remington armor. He currently holds a Master Peace Officer T.E.C.L.O.S.E. certificate with 2945 hours of credit.
