Chief Henry Porretto is responsible for the direction of the Galveston Police Department as a whole, as well as the supervision of the individuals and units assigned to his office.
The office of the Chief of Police determines departmental policies and ensures the complete discharge of all duties imposed by Texas State Law or City Ordinance. The Office is responsible for the control, management and direction of all officers and employees, as well as the Department’s administration and operation.
A life long Galvestonian, Chief Henry Porretto started his career as a reserve police officer with the Galveston Police Department in 1989 and transitioning to a permanent position in 1990 as a patrolman. Chief Porretto has worked in a number of positions within the department and special assignments including the construction of the Mobile Emergency Operations Center, SWAT Command Center, and the 53rd street sub-station renovation project.
Chief Porretto has also served with the D.E.A. Task Force, and is the only current member of the Galveston Police Department to hold every possible rank in the Department.
Additionally Chief Porretto is a two-time recipient of the officer of the year award.
