LT. Henry Porretto (49) a life long Galveston resident is an 19-year veteran of the Galveston Police Department. LT. Porretto started his career as a reserve police officer with The City of Galveston Police Department in 1989, and being permanently hired in 1990 as a Patrolman. LT. Porretto has served at every level in the Patrol Division, working on a number of special-assignments, which included the construction of the Mobile Emergency Operations Center, SWAT Command Center, 53rd Street Sub-Station renovation project.

Upon completion of the renovation project officer Porretto was re-assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force. Shortly thereafter in 1996 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, where he served as a first line supervisor. Sgt. Porretto was responsible for the design and construction of the SWAT Training Facility located at Scholes Field, acquisition of the Armored Rescue Vehicle and several other special projects.

In December of 1999, Sergeant Porretto was promote to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned command of the Special Projects Section which included, the municipal jail, parking control [pay n display integration project], community services, design and construction of the current mobile jail facility, and special events. Lt. Porretto also served as the departments SWAT Commander. Lieutenant Porretto was then assigned to Day Watch in 2004 until 2006, at which time he was transferred to lead the Special Operations Group.

LT.  Porretto also holds a Masters of Science Degree in Strategic Leadership from Mountain State University, Bachelor of Science Degree in the Administration of Criminal Justice, A Certified Public Manager Designation from the State of Texas, Master Peace Officer License, and is a Harvard Fellow. Additionally, Lt. Porretto is a Leadership and Command College Graduate, FBI- Command College Graduate, and a FBI-LEEDA Command College Graduate, as well as a state licensed law enforcement instructor.  

Lt. Porretto has received a number of department citations and has been named Officer of the Year twice, 1994 by the 50 Club  & 2007 by the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas.
